Zidane Among Three Potential Ole Gunnar Solskjaer Replacements

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer on Sunday morning joined an expanding list of managers Manchester United have hired and parted ways with since the retirement of Sir Alex Ferguson in 2013.

The axing of Solskjaer was inevitable following two months of dismal results that have left United's Premier League ambitions in jeopardy.

Manchester United hierarchy had previously shown support for the Norwegian's stewardship after their 5-0 thrashing by Liverpool, but their latest defeat to Watford was deemed unacceptable.

Solskjaer leaves Manchester United after failing to win a trophy in almost three years as manager. Michael Carrick is set to take charge as United seek to make an interim appointment until end of season.

With that in mind, here's three managers United could appoint to replace Solskjaer on permanent basis.

Mauricio Pochettino

In the wake of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer dismissal, current PSG boss, Mauricio Pochettino, is being heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford.

Prior to joining the Parisians in January, United had approached the Argentine about managing the Red Devils.

Pochettino enjoyed an impressive tenure in the Premier League with Tottenham Hotspur before being fired in November 2019 following a string of uninspiring results.

Zinedine Zidane

It's definitely not the first time Zinedine Zidane has been linked with a move to Manchester United.

The former Real Madrid manager enjoyed two stellar spells at Bernabeu, winning the Champions league three times, 2 Laliga titles, 2 Spanish super cups and 2 FIFA worldcups.

A move to Old Trafford would re-unite Zidane with his former players, Cristiano Ronaldo and Raphael Varane.

Erik ten Hag

Since joining Ajax in 2017, Ten Hag built reputation as one of Europe's top managers.

Although he has never managed a big club outside of Netherlands, his attacking football philosophy would be a perfect fit for United.

Ajax have been running riot in Eredivise under the tutelage of Erik ten Hag. Their performances in the UEFA Champions league have been even more impressive.
