The stadium, which is used by the nation’s football and rugby union teams, has a capacity of 51,711 and has experience of hosting the final of Europe’s secondary top club competition. It was the site in which Porto defeated fellow Portuguese side Braga 1-0 in the 2011 final.

The newest of the continental club competitions under the UEFA brand and banner, the UEFA Europa Conference League has been one tournament that some teams have already looked to try and use as a new platform to boost their profiles. Set to enter its third edition, this year’s final will be held at the Agia Sophia Stadium in Athens, Greece. The home stadium of AEK Athens, the venue has a capacity of just 32,500, which may be considered small should two teams with large fanbases reach the final. There was a lot of anger regarding last year’s final about the stadium choice, as both West Ham United and Fiorentina took part and have huge support backing them wherever they go.
