Commonly known as 'Smart DL" the New Digital Driving license has been in roll out since 2018 thanks to National Transport and Safety Authority(NTSA) efforts to digitise their records.
The new driving license is fitted with a chip and carries a driver's information ranging from personal details such as blood type and also driving information.
Another key feature of the smart driving license is Each card has 100 points and points are deducted when traffic offenses are committed. If the driver reaches the threshold of 40 points, the license will automatically be cancelled.
Follow the steps below to apply your Digital Driving License
1. Go to your computer and log in to your NTSA TIMS account. If you do not have a Tims account create one by following this process.
- Open the NTSA web portal using this link https://tims.ntsa.go.ke/login_csp.jsp.
- Click on Register an account to input your details and follow the procedure to complete registration.
2.After a successful Login search and choose the ‘Driving licence’ option. Click on the ‘Apply for smart driving licence’ on the drop down menu.
3.Now fill in the details requested and confirm those that are already pre-filled. After keying in all the details , click on the ‘next’ button. This will redirect you to the payment section.
4.The new digital driving licence fee is Ksh 3000, Ksh 50 for convenience charges and Ksh 60 for the MPESA transaction. You will thus need Ksh 3110 in your MPESA account.
5.Now follow the provided instructions and complete the payment. Make sure to print out the invoice.
6.Now go back to the ‘New digital driving licence’ dashboard and click on ‘book appointment.’ Choose a date and time that you will be able to visit the nearest NTSA office with your invoice and a passport photo.
