Newcastle takeover: The players they could sign in January

A new era has dawned at Newcastle United following a £305 million Saudi Arabian backed takeover, finalised on 7th October.

The takeover ended former owner, Mike Ashley, much maligned 14 year reign.

The new owners' assets are priced at over £250 billion, rendering them the richest football clubs owners in the world.

Although the Magpies current owners are seriously loaded and willing to invest, the process of building an elite team will be gradual.

They are placed in relegation zone at the moment, which makes them less attractive to star players like Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland.

The current Premier league odds have Newcastle at 21/10 on being relegated, meaning strengthening their squad in January is imminent.

With that in mind here's six players Newcastle could realistically sign in January.

Dean Henderson

Newcastle have struggled since the start of the season to find a reliable shot-stopper. Available for selection are Martin Dubravka and Karl Darlow. The duo has been rotated as No.1 amid fitness issues.

Manchester United goalkeeper, Dean Henderson, would be a perfect fit for the Toons. With David De Gea proving impenetrable, Henderson has found it hard to make the Red Devils starting line-up.

A move away from Old Trafford to St James Park, either on-loan or permanent basis, would be beneficial for Henderson and Newcastle United.

James Tarkowski

Having already conceded 19 goals in the ongoing premier league campaign – the most for any team, it is clear the Newcastle squad is in dire need of new defenders.

Securing the services Burnley's James Tarkowski, although half decent, would be an upgrade of the defenders Newcastle have at the moment.

The 28 year old's contract expires at the end of the season, meaning Burnley would be willing to sell him in January instead of letting him go on a free in the summer.

Clement Lenglet

Lenglet is another viable option for Newcastle in the defence. The Frenchman has fallen out of favour at FC Barcelona, under Ronald Koeman.

Coupled with the fact that the Catalan giants are struggling financially, they would surely find it difficult to turn down a decent-sized bid for Clement Lenglet.

Aaron Ramsey

The Wales international has found it hard to settle in Serie A, since joining Juventus from Arsenal in 2019.

With Newcastle likely to shift more attacking minded approaches, the flair and experience of Aaron Ramsey would be of great importance.

Jesse Lingard

Jesse Lingard's star shone its brightest last season while on loan at West Ham Untied. The Manchester United midfielder enjoyed six unforgettable months with the Hammers, scoring 9 goals in 16 matches.

Prior to joining West Ham last season, he had turned down Newcastle who also wanted his services on-loan. He has found it difficult to break into Man United star studded starting line-up, occasionally starting on the bench.

A move to Newcastle for Lingard in on the cards. His arrival would provided the much needed creativity in their midfield, plus the England international is also excellent at scoring goals.

Ousmane Dembele

Although a move for Dembele would be an overly ambitious one, it is not an impossible one either.

The France international has struggled to say fit, constantly spending time on the sidelines since joining Barca in 2017.

With Allan Saint-Maximin on the left wing,  adding Dembele to the right wing would give Newcastle squad creativity and an injection of pace that terrifies defences, along with tricky dribbling.
