Madrid is a capital city with tons of stuff to see and do. It may not exactly have the reputation of other capitals, but it’s a city bustling with life that is steeped in rich history. And, with so much to see and do, it’s wise to check out all the places that shouldn’t be missed.

What Is Not To Be Missed In Madrid

The Prado

There are loads of cities around the world that offer art museums, but they don't come more iconic than the Prado in Madrid. In fact, the Prado is that legendary in art circles; it's the sole reason many go to Madrid in the first place. Inside the Prado, visitors will find work from both renaissance and baroque artists, with many must-see pieces of art located in the venue. Whether you’re a massive art buff or not, the chance to see work from the likes of El Greco and Rembrandt is not something to miss out on.

Casino Gran Via

You may read the name Casino Gran Via and think it’s just another typical casino located in a capital city. But Casino Gran Via is so much more than that, and this is why it’s a place everyone must visit. There is some excellent gaming action available, especially poker, but guests can also enjoy some excellent fine dining too. And, if all that wasn’t enough, there are luxurious rooms to stay in, which means the gaming action doesn’t have to end when visitors leave the casino floor. In fact, it is not uncommon to check out reviews on the latest slots and then relax in one of the on-site rooms and spin the reels.

Santiago Bernabeu

The Santiago Bernabeu is home to one of the world's most successful and historic football teams. Real Madrid have won everything there is to win and continue to do so. So, to visit their stadium is not to be missed. And there are a couple of options to go with. For ardent football fans, twinning a stadium tour that gets you up close and personal with the trophies the club has won and into the dressing room and dugouts with taking in a match is the stuff of dreams. There’s also plenty of merchandise on sale too, so buying a momento or two and taking pictures for Instagram is also advised.

Mercado San Miguel

When visiting different cities around the globe, especially ones steeped in history, there are always excellent marketplaces to check out, and Madrid is no different. The Mercado San Miguel, which is close to Plaza Mayor, has been around since 1916, and it’s authentically Spanish and represents all that is good about Madrid. There are a few grocery stalls spread around, but this is the place to get your hands on things such as cava, pimenton and saffron. And while you’re in the marketplace, there are some great tapas bars serving everything from patatas bravas to gambas al ajillo, with beer to wash everything down.
