Veteran goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey, 38, has said goodbye to professional football after deciding to bid farewell to a brilliant career of more than 20 years.
Hennessey played more than 400 matches at club and international level, mostly with clubs such as Wolverhampton Wanderers, Crystal Palace, Burnley and Nottingham Forest. He also was a pillar of the Welsh national team as on the international scene, he received 108 caps, becoming the third most capped Welsh players ever, only to Gareth Bale and Chris Gunter.
Hennessey, famous as a shot-stopper, a leader, and a consistent player, was involved in the Welsh historic Euro 2016 semi-finalist run and in their team at Euro 2020 and the World Cup 2022.
Hennessey is a highly admirable figure and a treasured servant of Welsh football who has a legacy that will live long future representing a strength and national pride.
