Leon Bailey to AS Roma: Deal Agreed in Principle

AS Roma will reinforce their offense by triggering the transfer of Leon Bailey of Aston Villa. The Italian transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has put his stamp of trademark on Twitter to confirm that Roma and Villa have agreed in a verbal agreement over the Jamaican winger.

Roma will reportedly sign Bailey on loan at a fee of between 2- 3 million with a buy option clause of 22 million. Such an arrangement also provides Roma with an element of flexibility; the club is able to gauge and evaluate the level at which the loan of Bailey is actually working before committing itself to a permanent deal, whilst Aston Villa can benefit financially should the option be exercised.

The main reason why this deal is rather important is the fact that Bailey is in no doubt in his mind about joining Roma. It is known that the winger stressed that Roma was his priority destination even though there were other interest in his services. His demands to be transferred to the Italian capital contributed to the completion of the agreement significantly.

The arrangement is a done-deal and then comes medical authorization. After the medical and signing of contracts, the official presentation of Bailey as the new signing of Roma will be done.

The 27-year old Leon Bailey joined Aston Villa in 2021 after playing at Bayer Leverkusen and has left a dynamic mark on the club. Well known in terms of pace, dribbling and cutting inside off the flanks, Bailey could give Roma a much welcome creative edge and this unpredictability in the final third.

Bailey has made important contributions to Villa in both domestic and European competitions during which he has assisted in securing Unai Emerys side Champions league football. But since attacking spots are hot contested at Villa Park, the transfer will give him the opportunity to get constant playing time and a new challenge in Serie A.
