Chelsea have come to an agreement in principle with Ajax to sign highly-rated Dutch defender Jorrel Hato, which could rise to more than 40 million euros. The transfer is still waiting for the supervisory board of Ajax, however, a sell on clause is also part of the deal.
The 19-year-old phenomenon is now set to undertake a medical trip to London in the near future, at which point all details should be tied up and the youngster should sign a long-term contract that will run until June 2032.
The young defender Hato has been attracting attention of some of the best European clubs as he had a great season in Ajax and demonstrated maturity, composure and boundary-pushing leadership that well supersede his age. Through his stormy season, young centre-back Ajax was one of the only players who was unchanged as he took over the leadership of the team several times and became the hope of the future.
New ownership and management of Chelsea have retained their habits of investing in the young talent, and Hato perfectly suits their long-term planning. The capability to feature as a central defender and the left-back increases the versatility in the defense.
All the deal has to do now is pass the last green light and this would be the supervisory board of Ajax. After that is passed, Hato will secure his medical and be officially a Chelsea footballer, which is another huge signing in terms of the next-generation of stars at the club.
