Victor Wanyama was born on 25 June 1991 in Kenya. He attended Kamukunji High School, known for its strong football culture. After high school, he played for JMJ Academy before joining Kenyan clubs Nairobi City Stars and AFC Leopards.
In 2007, Wanyama moved to Sweden’s Allsvenskan club Helsingborg but returned to Kenya in 2008 after his brother, McDonald Mariga, secured a move to Serie A side Parma.

Beerschot AC (2008–2011)
Wanyama joined Belgian side Beerschot AC in 2008 on a four-year contract. He made his first-team debut at the end of the 2008–09 season. During his time in Belgium, he gained a reputation as a tough and physical midfielder, though he also faced suspensions for disciplinary issues.
